The PhD projects proposed in the PRISM programme cross the frontiers between soft matter, microfluidics, chemistry, physics, biology and materials science, and target a topic requiring a substantial level of integration between disciplines.

The selected candidates will be hosted in one of the 13 Research Units of ESPCI Paris (UMR).

Research activities are structured around 4 complementary themes:

1) Development of eco-responsible chemical processes: development of sustainable chemical processes operating under mild conditions, based on green chemistry, innovative catalysis, flow chemistry and biocatalysis. Applications include biomass valorisation, sustainable synthesis and CO₂ conversion.

2) Building a circular economy: Design of new strategies for recycling, upcycling and resource recovery, with a particular focus on polymers and plastics. Research combines enzyme engineering, advanced materials and innovative recycling approaches to support a circular economy.

3) Innovative concepts for renewable energy: Exploration of novel renewable energy concepts, including blue energy, energy harvesting from mechanical vibrations and waves, and bioenergy production from microalgae. Particular attention is given to advanced membranes and functional soft materials.

4) Carbon capture storage and valorisation, application to building materials: Development of innovative solutions for carbon capture, utilisation and storage, ranging from direct air capture technologies and CO₂ conversion to mineralisation and carbon-negative building materials.

The research projects supported by the PRISM programme will cover this broad spectrum of scientific domains, providing an excellent landscape to carry out interdisciplinary research.
